Boku is a mobile payment company based in San Francisco, California. Boku uses carrier billing as a form of payment in that when a customer makes a purchase through Boku, the bill is sent to the customer's mobile network operator. Its intention was to reach out to people with no bank accounts.
Boku has managed to connect to over 173 carriers in over 50 markets across the globe. Some of its clients are Apple Inc, Facebook, Google Play Store, Microsoft Store and Spotify among others. To allow users to cross-purchase from different platforms, Boku has a subscription service that works more or less like a credit card.
